Getting Started

On-Ramp Foundations

Every new Ironclad athlete begins with On-Ramp — our 6-session foundations course designed to teach you every CrossFit movement before you step into a regular WOD class.

It's not just about safety (though it is very much about safety). It's about confidence. You'll know what a thruster is, how to kip, when to scale — and you'll meet your coaches and fellow athletes in a lower-stakes environment.

Most athletes complete On-Ramp in 2-3 weeks. After that, you join the regular WOD classes with a solid foundation and a community that's already rooting for you.

Start Foundations — Included in First Month

6 Sessions · 3× Per Week Available

01

Air Squat & Front Squat

The foundation of all lower body movements. Position, depth, and bracing fundamentals.

02

Overhead Squat & Press

Overhead stability, shoulder mechanics, and the strict press progression.

03

Deadlift & Kettlebell Swing

Hip hinge mechanics, posterior chain loading, and grip safety.

04

Push Press & Push Jerk

Using leg drive for overhead work. Power transfer from lower to upper body.

05

Power Clean & SDHP

Hip extension into pulling mechanics. The Olympic lifting gateway.

06

Your First Scaled WOD

Combine everything you've learned into a real WOD — scaled perfectly to you.

Athlete Stories

Real athletes, real results

  • "I was terrified before my first WOD. Coach Jake walked me through every movement in On-Ramp and by week 3 I was doing Rx thrusters. The community here is like nothing I've experienced."

    Morgan T. Member since 2023 · On-Ramp grad
  • "Three years in and I still can't wait for the WOD to post at 5 PM. Coach Priya finally got me my first strict muscle-up. That day felt better than my first PR clean."

David K. Member since 2021 · CF Open competitor
  • "I'm 54 and I've been doing CrossFit here for 2 years. Coach Sam scaled everything perfectly from day one. I'm stronger now than I was at 40."

Patricia L. Member since 2022 · Masters athlete
  • "The WOD board is addictive. I check it every night before bed. Tyler's pacing tips helped me drop 4 minutes off my Murph time this year."

    Raj M. Member since 2022
  • "Moved from NYC and was nervous about finding a new box. Ironclad made me feel like a regular by my second week. The 6am crew is the best group of humans I know."

    Sofia B. Member since 2024

Our Story

Why we built the box

In 2019, Coach Jake Rivera walked away from a commercial gym career to open CrossFit Ironclad in Denver's River North district. The reason was simple: he'd seen what CrossFit could do for people, and he wanted to build a box where the coaching matched the culture.

CrossFit Ironclad isn't a franchise formula. We don't oversell. We don't overload class sizes. We cap every session at 25 athletes so each coach can give real attention to each person. The result is a community that actually knows each other — and coaches who know your name, your limitations, and your goals.

After 5 years and 250+ athletes, the approach hasn't changed. We program daily. We coach every class. We scale obsessively. And we celebrate every milestone — from your first pull-up to your best Open score.

The CrossFit Foundation

Constantly Varied

No two WODs are the same. Constantly varied programming prevents plateaus and builds true broad fitness across all time domains and movement patterns.

Functional Movement

Every movement mirrors real life: squatting, pressing, pulling, running, jumping. CrossFit builds the physical capacity you'll use every day — not just in the box.

High Intensity

Intensity — relative to your own fitness level — is the mechanism for results. Your Rx is different from the athlete next to you, and that's exactly the point.

What is CrossFit? Is it for me?
CrossFit is constantly varied functional movement executed at high intensity. It's a general physical preparedness program — meaning it makes you better at life, not just the gym. Every workout can be scaled to your fitness level, making it appropriate for everyone from complete beginners to elite athletes.
Do I need to be fit before starting CrossFit?
Absolutely not. Our On-Ramp Foundations program exists precisely so that anyone — regardless of fitness level — can learn the movements safely and confidently before joining regular WOD classes. Most of our members had zero CrossFit experience when they started.
What is the On-Ramp / Foundations program?
It's your CrossFit entry point. Six coached sessions (offered 3x per week, so you can complete it in 2 weeks or go at your own pace) covering all nine foundational movements: squat, front squat, overhead squat, press, push press, push jerk, deadlift, sumo deadlift high pull, and medicine ball clean. You'll also learn scaling, reading WODs, and box etiquette.
How is this different from a regular gym?
A CrossFit box has coached group classes for every session — you're never left alone to figure out a program. Every class follows the same WOD (with individualized scaling) which builds community because everyone is suffering together. There are no treadmills for solo cardio — everything is programmed and coached.
How many times per week should I train?
Most athletes thrive on 3-4 WODs per week with at least one rest day between sessions. We don't recommend training 5+ days until you've been CrossFitting for 6+ months and have solid recovery habits. Quality and consistency beat frequency.
Can I try a class before committing?
Yes — we offer a free trial week for first-timers (after completing at least one On-Ramp session for safety). Just reach out and we'll get you set up. No credit card required.
Is CrossFit safe? What about injuries?
CrossFit performed with proper coaching and appropriate scaling is very safe. Our coaches give movement cues and scaling options every class. The most common cause of CrossFit injury is ego — going too heavy or too fast before mechanics are established. Our On-Ramp program directly addresses this by locking in technique before intensity.
Do you offer parking?
Yes — we have a dedicated lot off Brighton Blvd with 20 spaces, plus free street parking nearby. Bike racks are outside the front entrance. We're also 2 blocks from the 40/43 bus stop.
