New to Sattva

30 Days for $30

If you're new to Sattva — or new to yoga — the New Student Special gives you 30 consecutive days of unlimited classes for $30. One class or thirty. Any style, any teacher, any time.

It's designed to give you room to explore. Try Vinyasa and Yin in the same week. Discover which teachers resonate. Let yourself arrive without pressure.

Valid for first-time students only. Present this offer when you register online or at the studio desk.

What to Expect

01

Arrive Early

Plan to arrive 10 minutes before class. Introduce yourself to your teacher. Tell them if you have any injuries or if it's your first class.

02

Settle In

Choose a spot on the studio floor. Props are on the shelves — take a block, blanket, or strap if offered. You don't need to know how to use them yet.

03

Follow Your Body

Every teacher offers modifications. Rest in child's pose whenever you need to. There's no performance standard here — only your own honest practice.

04

Stay for Savasana

The final resting pose is the most important. Don't rush out. Let your practice land. The stillness at the end is what you came for.

Our Story

Why Sattva?

The word sattva comes from Sanskrit — it describes the quality of clarity, purity, and luminous awareness. In Ayurvedic philosophy, a sattvic state is one of balance: neither dull nor agitated, but awake and at ease.

Sofia Andersen founded this studio in 2016 after a decade as an architect, a burnout, and a journey to Mysore, India where she trained intensively for three months. She came back with a simple conviction: that yoga, taught with honesty and without performance, has the power to restore people to themselves.

Sattva is built on that conviction. We keep class sizes small. We choose teachers who teach from practice, not from certification alone. We believe your yoga practice is yours — we're just here to hold the space for it.

What We Believe

Present in the Body

Yoga is not about achieving the shape of a pose. It's about arriving — fully, honestly — into the body you have today. Every class is an invitation to notice rather than perform.

All Bodies Welcome

There is no yoga body. Every teacher at Sattva is trained to offer modifications and alternatives. You do not need to be flexible, strong, thin, young, or experienced to belong here.

Community Over Competition

A yoga studio is not a gym. There are no leaderboards, no PRs, no comparing how deep someone else bends. We come here to practice together, and to remind each other that the point is stillness, not achievement.

Student Stories

What practitioners say

  • “I'd been putting off starting yoga for three years. Sattva was the first studio where I didn't feel like I needed to already know how to do yoga to walk in the door. Sofia's Hatha class changed everything.”

    Rachel T. Student since 2022
  • “James's Yin classes are something else entirely. I've been practicing yoga for eight years and I've never experienced that quality of stillness. My Wednesday night Yin is non-negotiable now.”

David M. Yin + Restorative student
  • “I did the prenatal yoga classes throughout my second and third trimester. The community of women in that room was everything. I credit those sessions with how calm I felt going into labor.”

Priya K. Prenatal student, now back for Vinyasa
  • “Lena's Restorative class was my gateway drug. I came in skeptical — I'm a runner, I thought I needed something harder. Forty-five minutes into my first class I was crying. It gave me something I didn't know I needed.”

    Chris W. Monthly unlimited member
  • “The Sunday morning meditation with Sofia is the best part of my week. I manage chronic anxiety and these sessions have genuinely changed how I navigate stress. I'm more present, more patient, more myself.”

Ananya P. Meditation student, 18 months

FAQ

Common questions

Still have questions? Email us at hello@sattvayoga.com and we'll respond same day.

Book a Class
I've never done yoga before. Where should I start?
Our Hatha Yoga class is designed for students of all experience levels, including absolute beginners. Classes move at a measured pace with detailed alignment instruction. You'll learn the foundational postures that underpin every other style. We also recommend booking a New Student Special — 30 days of unlimited classes for $30 — so you can explore multiple class types in your first month.
What's the difference between Vinyasa and Hatha?
Hatha is a slower, posture-focused practice — you hold each pose longer and receive detailed instruction on alignment and breath. Vinyasa is a flowing, dynamic practice linking movement with breath. Postures transition more quickly, building more heat and cardiovascular engagement. Most practitioners enjoy both — Hatha for grounding and Vinyasa for energy.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
We have studio mats available for rent at $3 per class. If you plan to practice regularly, we recommend investing in your own mat — it becomes part of your practice. All other props (bolsters, blocks, blankets, straps) are provided free of charge.
What is Yin Yoga and how is it different from Restorative?
Both are slow and floor-based, but they serve different purposes. Yin Yoga targets connective tissue — fascia, ligaments, joint capsules — through long passive holds (3–5 min). You'll feel a gentle, sometimes deep sensation as you hold. Restorative Yoga uses props to fully support the body in positions of ease, with zero effort or sensation required. Restorative is purely about rest and nervous system recovery.
Is Prenatal Yoga safe throughout pregnancy?
Our Prenatal Yoga classes are designed for students from week 12 through the third trimester. Sofia holds a Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT) certification. All postures are modified to avoid contraindicated positions during pregnancy. Please let Sofia know how many weeks you are before your first class so she can offer appropriate guidance.
I have an injury or chronic pain. Which class is right for me?
Lena's Restorative and Yoga Therapy sessions are specifically designed for students managing injury, chronic pain, or recovering from surgery. Lena holds a C-IAYT (Certified Yoga Therapist) credential and can adapt sessions significantly for individual needs. Email us at hello@sattvayoga.com before your first class and we'll match you with the most appropriate starting point.
What should I wear and what should I avoid eating beforehand?
Wear comfortable, flexible clothing that allows a full range of movement. Yoga is practiced barefoot. Try to avoid eating a heavy meal for 2–3 hours before practice — a light snack 1 hour prior is fine. Stay well hydrated on the day of your practice but avoid large amounts of water immediately before.
Can I cancel or freeze my Monthly Unlimited membership?
Monthly Unlimited memberships can be cancelled anytime before your next billing date — no cancellation fees, no notice period. Memberships can also be paused once per rolling 12-month period for up to 60 days (medical, travel, or personal). To cancel or pause, email hello@sattvayoga.com or speak to any teacher at reception.
