Getting Started

Your First Session Is Free

Before you join a group class, we invite you to a free 30-minute intro session — one-on-one or small group — with one of our coaches. No experience necessary. No gear required.

We\'ll cover the basic stance, hand position, guard, jab, and cross. You\'ll throw your first real punches on the heavy bag. By the end, you\'ll know exactly which class to start with and feel confident walking into it.

Most people come in nervous and leave excited. That\'s the goal of session one.

What Happens in Session 1

01

Meet Your Coach

Brief chat about your goals — fitness, self-defense, competition, or just trying something new. No judgment.

02

Stance & Guard

Learn the orthodox or southpaw stance, weight distribution, and the guard position that protects you.

03

First Combinations

Jab. Cross. Hook. You\'ll learn the three foundational punches and put them together on the heavy bag.

04

Your Next Step

Your coach recommends which class fits your level and goals. You leave ready to show up to your first group session.

Our Story

Built in Philly. Built for fighters.

Corner Club Boxing opened in 2012 in South Philadelphia — a neighborhood with deep boxing roots stretching back generations. Coach Marco Reyes had just retired from amateur competition and had one goal: build a gym where technique was taught the right way, and where anyone willing to put in the work could belong.

Twelve years later, the gym has produced PAL champions, regional Golden Gloves qualifiers, and hundreds of everyday members who came in nervous and left transformed. We\'ve kept the class sizes small by design — no more than 16 per fundamentals session — so coaches can see every member, every round.

We don\'t oversell. We don\'t promise overnight results. We teach real boxing, built on the same principles that have governed the sport for a century: footwork, defense, timing, and power. The rest follows.

What We Believe

Technique First

Speed and power come from proper mechanics. We teach the fundamentals relentlessly — because a sharp jab lands harder than a wild swing every time.

Small Classes

We cap fundamentals at 16. Your coach sees your guard slip and corrects it that round — not next month when the habit is hardwired. Individual attention matters.

Respect in the Gym

The ring teaches humility fast. We\'ve built a culture where every level is treated with equal respect — from your first class to your first fight.

FAQ

Common questions

Book Free Intro
Do I need any experience to start?
None at all. Boxing Fundamentals is designed specifically for people who've never thrown a punch. Your first class will cover stance, guard, footwork, and your first combinations on the bag. Coaches walk the floor giving individual feedback throughout.
What should I bring to my first class?
Athletic clothing and water. We recommend boxing shoes or flat-soled trainers (no running shoes with thick soles). We provide hand wraps and bag gloves for your first class. After that, you'll want to invest in your own 180" hand wraps and 12-16oz boxing gloves.
Is sparring mandatory?
Absolutely not. Sparring is optional and only available to members who have trained consistently for at least 3 months. The majority of our members train exclusively on bags, mitts, and in conditioning classes without ever sparring. All sparring is coach-supervised with full protective gear.
What's the intro session and is it really free?
Yes — your first session is free, no strings attached. We run a 30-minute one-on-one or small-group intro session where a coach walks you through the basic stance, guard, jab, and cross before you join your first group class. No credit card required to book.
Are your classes good for weight loss and fitness?
Boxing is one of the most effective full-body cardio workouts available. A 60-minute boxing class burns 500–800 calories depending on intensity. Members regularly report significant weight loss, improved cardiovascular fitness, and increased muscle tone within the first 2–3 months.
Do you have classes for women specifically?
Our Women's Boxing classes are available Tuesday and Thursday evenings, taught by Coach Sarah Vega — a 2× national amateur champion. All our group classes are co-ed and welcoming to everyone, but if you prefer a women-only environment to start, those dedicated sessions are there for you.
What age does the Youth Boxing program accept?
We accept youth members ages 8–17, split into two groups: 8–12 (Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 PM) and 13–17 (Tuesday and Thursday 5:30 PM). Youth classes focus entirely on technique, discipline, and fun — there is no contact sparring in the youth program.
Can I cancel my membership anytime?
Monthly memberships can be cancelled anytime before your next billing date with no cancellation fees. Annual memberships are non-refundable after 30 days but can be paused once per year for up to 60 days (medical or travel).
