About the Trainer

Hi, I'm Alex Rivera.

I've been coaching clients in Austin for 8 years. Before that, I spent three years working as a strength coach at UT Austin's Athletics Department, programming for varsity track, basketball, and swimming athletes — which gave me a deep foundation in evidence-based, periodized strength and conditioning.

My private clients are mostly busy professionals — engineers, healthcare workers, executives, parents — who have real demands on their time and energy. They don't need a rigid plan that ignores their life. They need a coach who builds the plan around their life.

I hold the NSCA's CSCS (the gold standard for strength and conditioning), the ACSM-CPT, Precision Nutrition Level 2, and an ACE Group Fitness certification. I pursue continuing education every year because the science moves fast and I owe my clients the most current, evidence-based approach available.

    Fully individualized training sessions at Embody Austin or your preferred location in Austin. Each session begins with a brief mobility check-in, then moves into your customized programming — strength, conditioning, or hybrid. I track every set, every rep, and adjust on the fly.     Full coaching relationship delivered remotely. I build your 12-week program in TrueCoach, you execute it at your gym (or home), and we connect weekly via video check-in. Every coaching engagement follows the same three-phase framework — regardless of format. The consistency of the process is what produces consistent results.

    Understand the starting point

    Every coaching relationship begins with a 90-minute Kickoff Assessment: body composition scan (InBody 570), movement screening (FMS-inspired), training history review, lifestyle audit, and honest conversation about your goals — not just what you think sounds good, but what you actually want your life to look like 6 months from now. This session shapes everything that follows.

    Build the right plan

    I write your program from scratch — no templates, no one-size-fits-all. Periodized across 12-week mesocycles aligned to your goal (fat loss, muscle gain, performance, or all three). Each week is structured around your schedule, recovery capacity, and available equipment. Nutrition targets are set using metabolic data from your assessment, not generic formulas.

    Execute, track, adjust

    We train, we track, we adapt. Every 4 weeks I analyze your data (performance, body composition, energy, adherence) and adjust the program. The goal isn't to follow a plan — it's to make steady, measurable progress toward the specific outcome we agreed on in week one. Most clients hit their first major milestone within 8–12 weeks.

What does the free consultation include?
The free consultation is a 45-minute video call (or in-person at Embody Austin). We talk about your goals, training history, lifestyle, and what's worked — and what hasn't — in the past. I'll share my honest assessment of whether we're a good fit and what I think your program would look like. No obligation, no sales pressure. Most people find the conversation itself clarifying.
What fitness level do I need to be at to work with you?
Any level. Truly. I've coached complete beginners who had never set foot in a gym and competitive athletes who needed advanced periodization. My specialty is adapting coaching to where you actually are, not where a cookie-cutter program assumes you are. The Kickoff Assessment exists precisely to calibrate.
How long before I start seeing results?
Most clients notice energy and performance improvements within 2–3 weeks. Visible body composition changes — especially with consistent adherence — typically appear between weeks 4–8. Significant transformation (the kind that shows in photos) usually takes 3–6 months of consistent training and nutrition adherence. I won't promise rapid results because sustainable change doesn't work that way.
What does "Precision Nutrition Level 2" mean?
PN Level 2 is the clinical-level certification from Precision Nutrition — the world's largest nutrition coaching organization. It goes beyond macros and calorie counting into behavioral change, habit formation, and how to build eating patterns that last long-term. I don't give meal plans (which rarely work) — I teach you a sustainable nutrition framework you can maintain when coaching ends.
How is online coaching different from just buying a fitness app?
A fitness app gives you a program. Online coaching gives you a relationship. The difference shows up when you've had a stressful week, missed sessions, or your progress stalls — an app can't adjust your program based on your situation, call out a technique problem in a submitted video, or provide the accountability that turns good intentions into consistent behavior. I'm a real person who knows your specific situation and adjusts accordingly.
Do you coach clients outside Austin, TX?
Yes. Online coaching is location-independent — I work with clients across the US and internationally. In-person 1:1 and small-group sessions are Austin-only (Embody Austin studio or client-preferred location within Austin).
What happens after my initial 12-week program ends?
If you're still working toward your goal, we continue — I write the next mesocycle (typically 12 more weeks with adjusted targets based on your progress). Many clients continue indefinitely. If you've hit your goal, we work on a maintenance and sustainability plan so you can maintain results independently. There's no lock-in, no automatic renewal — just a monthly coaching relationship that continues as long as it's valuable to you.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
1:1 and small-group session packs are valid for 90 days from purchase. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are forfeited (emergencies excluded — just message me). Online coaching is month-to-month with 7 days' notice required to cancel before the next billing cycle. I do not offer refunds for sessions already delivered, but I stand behind the quality of my coaching — if something isn't working, we talk about it.
