What We Offer

Five paths to precision

From the classical reformer to barre fusion — every format at Forma is grounded in the same Pilates principles: concentration, control, centering, precision, breath, and flow.

  • Reformer Fundamentals

Beginner — All Levels 55 min

The entry point to reformer work. Learn the essential spring-resistance movements, understand neutral spine and pelvic alignment, and build the mind-muscle connection that makes everything else possible. Small classes (max 6 reformers) with hands-on instructor guidance throughout.

    Book this class →
  • Reformer Flow

    Intermediate – Advanced 55 min

A dynamic reformer class for students who have completed the Intro Trio and built a solid foundation. Flowing sequences that challenge coordination, core endurance, and full-body integration. Expect footwork series, long-spine work, short-box repertoire, and standing balance exercises.

    Book this class →
  • Mat Pilates

    All Levels 50 min

The original Pilates method — Joseph Pilates taught mat work first. No equipment needed. This class develops the same core control and body awareness as reformer work, and forms the foundation of understanding the method. Excellent for newcomers, travellers, and as a complement to reformer practice.

    Book this class →
  • Barre + Pilates Fusion

    All Levels 50 min

A full-body conditioning class combining ballet barre work with classical Pilates principles. Targets thighs, glutes, seat, and core through high-rep, low-weight movements. Energetic, music-driven, and the most cardio-intensive format we offer. Great for students seeking endurance alongside core work.

  • Tower & Chair

    Intermediate 55 min

Explore the full Pilates apparatus beyond the reformer. Tower work uses the wall unit for deep spinal articulation and leg spring exercises. Chair (Wunda Chair) develops extraordinary leg strength and balance. Ideal for advancing practitioners who want to deepen their apparatus vocabulary.

New to Forma

Intro Reformer Trio — 3 Sessions, $99

All new students complete the Intro Reformer Trio before joining group reformer classes. Three 60-minute private sessions — with one of our instructors, on a dedicated reformer — that build the foundation for everything that follows.

The reformer is spring-resistance apparatus. Without understanding how spring tension affects your body, group classes become guesswork. With it, every class makes sense immediately. The Trio is not a sales tactic — it is genuinely necessary, and students who do it progress dramatically faster than those who skip it.

Valid for first-time students at Forma only. Sessions must be completed within 30 days of purchase. Trio sessions are private (one-to-one).

What Happens in Each Session

Session 1

Equipment Orientation

Learn the reformer: springs, bars, straps, and carriage. Footwork series in all spring positions. Basic breathing and neutral spine. You leave knowing how to set up and operate the machine safely.

Session 2

Core Foundations

Abdominal series, arm springs, and leg springs. Introduction to the Powerhouse — the deep core stabilizers that initiate every Pilates movement. Spinal articulation and seated work.

Session 3

Full Beginner Sequence

Your instructor takes you through a complete beginner reformer sequence at class pace. Short-box series, standing work, and the full mat-to-reformer transition. You leave ready for Reformer Fundamentals.

The Method

The six principles of Pilates

Joseph Pilates developed his method in New York in the 1920s with six guiding principles that remain the foundation of classical Pilates instruction today. At Forma, every class is built around them.

01

Concentration

Full attention to every movement. Pilates is not autopilot fitness — each repetition requires conscious engagement. The mind directs the body.

02

Control

No movement is performed carelessly. All motions are deliberate and precise. Momentum is the enemy. Control is the discipline.

03

Centering

Every movement originates from the Powerhouse — the deep core that includes the abdominals, back, pelvic floor, and hip flexors. The centre before the periphery.

04

Precision

Quality over quantity, always. Five precise repetitions achieve more than twenty careless ones. The method rewards exactness.

05

Breath

Breath coordinates with movement in a specific, intentional pattern. Proper breathing deepens the work and activates the deep core stabilizers automatically.

06

Flow

Movements connect to one another with grace and continuity. Pilates is not a series of isolated exercises — it is a system that flows from beginning to end.

Our Story

Why Forma?

Forma is Italian for "form" — the correct form, the precise form, the form that makes the work work. Elena Vasquez opened this studio in 2019 after 15 years studying and teaching Pilates in New York, London, and Seattle, with one conviction: that a boutique reformer studio done properly, with the right instructor-to-student ratio and uncompromising attention to method, would change what her clients believed their bodies could do.

We intentionally keep classes small. Six reformers. Never more. The quality of instruction in a class of six and a class of twelve are not the same experience — and we are not in the business of delivering the cheaper version.

Student Stories

What practitioners say

  • “I came to Forma after a lumbar disc herniation. My physio recommended clinical Pilates and a friend pointed me to Marcus. Three months later I'm stronger than I was before the injury. The anatomical precision in this studio is unlike anything I've found elsewhere.”

Tom R. Reformer + Mat student, 10 months
  • “I've done yoga for seven years and always thought Pilates was yoga for people who don't want to stretch. I was completely wrong. The reformer work is challenging in a completely different way — it exposed every single weakness in my posterior chain.”

    Sarah M. Monthly Unlimited member
  • “Devon's Reformer Fundamentals class is where I learned what 'core' actually means. Not crunches. Not planks. Actual deep stabilization. I'm a cyclist and my power output increased measurably after eight weeks. My coach noticed before I told him.”

James L. Competitive cyclist + Reformer student
  • “Ingrid's Barre Fusion class is the hardest class I've done that doesn't feel punishing. The music, the pace, the way she cues — it's joyful and brutal at the same time. I come twice a week and I've been here for a year. I haven't considered stopping.”

Priya K. Barre + Pilates Fusion devotee
  • “I was skeptical about the Intro Reformer Trio — I've done group fitness my whole life, I didn't think I needed private sessions first. Elena changed my mind in the first 20 minutes. By session three I understood why this is the only way to start.”

FAQ

Common questions

Still have questions? Email us at hello@formapilates.com and we'll respond same day.

Book Your Intro Trio
I've never done Pilates before. Where should I start?
All new students begin with our Intro Reformer Trio — three 60-minute private sessions that introduce you to the reformer apparatus and the foundational movements of the method. This is not optional: it ensures you arrive in group classes with the alignment awareness and spring-resistance understanding that makes the work safe and effective. The Trio costs $99 for all three sessions.
What is the Intro Reformer Trio and why is it required?
The Trio is three private sessions with one of our instructors. Session 1 focuses on equipment orientation and basic footwork. Session 2 introduces the abdominal series, arm and leg springs, and spinal articulation. Session 3 takes you through a full beginner class sequence so you're genuinely prepared for the group reformer format. Reformer work on incorrectly-set spring resistance can strain joints — the Trio eliminates that risk and dramatically accelerates your progress.
What is the difference between Reformer Fundamentals and Reformer Flow?
Reformer Fundamentals (max 6 students) is the entry point for all students new to group reformer work. The pace is deliberate, instruction is detailed, and modifications are always offered. Reformer Flow is for students who have completed the Intro Trio and at least 4 Fundamentals classes — the pace is faster, sequences are longer, and the expectation is that you know your spring settings and basic footwork. Devon's Fundamentals classes are an excellent starting point even if you have prior reformer experience outside Forma.
What should I wear to class?
Wear fitted, comfortable clothing — nothing too loose as fabric can catch in the reformer carriage springs. Pilates is practiced in socks or bare feet. We recommend grip socks for reformer work (available for purchase at the studio for $16). Avoid heavy jewelry that might scratch the equipment. Bring water and a small towel; the studio provides all reformer padding and props.
How is Pilates different from yoga?
Pilates and yoga are distinct disciplines with different origins, equipment, and goals. Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates as a system of spring-resistance and bodyweight conditioning focused on core strength, spinal alignment, and functional movement. It is more anatomically specific and often used therapeutically. Yoga is a broader philosophical and physical practice with roots in Indian tradition, emphasizing breath, posture (asana), and often meditative elements. Pilates students do not hold static poses — they move through controlled sequences. Many people practice both.
I have a back injury or chronic pain. Can I still practice?
Yes — Pilates is one of the most recommended modalities for back injury recovery and management. Marcus is a licensed physical therapist and will work with your existing injury to find the appropriate modifications. Please email us at hello@formapilates.com before your Intro Trio so we can match you with the right instructor from the start. We also offer private sessions for students with complex injury histories who need a more customized approach.
How many sessions before I see results?
Joseph Pilates himself said: "In 10 sessions you will feel the difference. In 20 sessions you will see the difference. In 30 sessions you will have a whole new body." This holds up in our experience. Most students notice improved posture and body awareness after 6–8 sessions. Measurable strength and mobility gains typically emerge around session 10–15 for students practicing twice per week. Consistency matters more than frequency.
Can I cancel a booked class, and what is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 12 hours' notice to cancel a class booking. Cancellations within 12 hours of class start (including same-day cancellations) result in a class credit being used from your pack or a $15 late-cancel fee for drop-in bookings. No-shows forfeit the class. Monthly Unlimited members have the same 12-hour policy. Early cancellations return the class to your account with no fee. You can cancel via the Mindbody app or by emailing hello@formapilates.com.
